On September 5, 1995, at eight o’clock in the morning, God pricked my heart for this ministry. I was rolled into Southwest Memorial Hospital to be prepped for open-heart surgery. The doctor proceeded to perform a heart catheterization that revealed a change in my heart condition that was different from his observation on May 17, 1995. In just four short months, my condition changed drastically! While lying on the table in the operating room, Dr. W. Carter Grinstead pronounced he saw no need for surgery at this time or in the future. He cancelled the open-heart surgery.
After I was taken to the recovery room, I asked Dr. Grinstead in amazement, “To what do you contribute the cancellation of my surgery?” His reply was, “Over a period of time, it (my heart) healed itself.” However, I boldly replied, “A condition that had existed for thirty-two years could not have simply healed itself in four months.” I then asked, “Doctor, would you say that there was some divine intervention?” His reply was, “No!” Then I said, “I’m glad you used the word ‘healed’ because I know that man can treat, but only God can heal.” Since that day, Turning Hearts Ministries (THM) has been “Turning Hearts Toward God!”
As Founder and President, I am truly grateful to God for all that He has done through THM. I am deeply humbled by and appreciative of every board member, volunteer, student, pastor, benefactor, and contributor. They play a key role in our lifetime commitment to winning souls and establishing Christian based community outreach programs. I ascribe my vision and success to their relentless commitment and support to THM.
I am overwhelmingly moved and motivated by the prayers, participation, and services of those who answered the call to be soul winners for Christ Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20). Your decision to lift up the name of Jesus says much concerning your personal Christian convictions. It says that not only are you followers of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ, but that your hearts burn for others to know Him as well!
It is, therefore, my fervent prayer that through the studying of the Sharing the Gospel book, you feel empowered to do even greater works to glorify the Savior, replenish the saints, and convert sinners. May you continue to strive for Christian excellence and never dwell in mediocrity!
